Molabe Fannie Seribishane, 59, has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of orchestrating and carrying out the murder of his wife, Mamsy Seribishane, 52. The killing took place on 22 October 2024 while the victim was reporting for duty at Lebowakgomo Hospital.

Attack at hospital gate

Police said Mamsy was shot and killed at about 5:30pm near the hospital gate by a gunman who fled in a white Volkswagen Golf 7. A murder case was registered at Lebowakgomo SAPS and later assigned to Provincial Detectives.

Investigation and evidence

The investigation was led by Captain Phaladi Makola of the Provincial Tracking Team. Police said evidence uncovered during the probe linked the husband to the murder. Investigators also found that the couple was in the process of divorcing and that a protection order had previously been granted against the accused.

After the murder, Seribishane went into hiding but was arrested on 13 November 2024 while visiting his home to collect personal belongings. Members of the Provincial Tracking Team and Provincial Investigation Unit recovered a 9mm pistol in his possession. Police said investigations later confirmed that the firearm had been stolen in Seshego in June 2024.

Ballistic analysis linked the recovered firearm conclusively to the murder. Technological analysis presented by the Hawks’ cellphone expert, Captain Machoene Mabotja, placed Seribishane at the crime scene and strengthened the State’s case.

Trial and sentence

Seribishane denied involvement throughout the proceedings and his bail applications were unsuccessful. The case was prosecuted by Advocate David Sebelebele.

On Wednesday, the Polokwane High Court sentenced Seribishane to life imprisonment for murder. The court also handed down additional terms: six years for contravening the Domestic Violence Act, 15 years for possession of an unlicensed firearm, and six years for possession of ammunition.

Next steps for the family

The court advised the deceased’s family of their right to make representations before the parole board when Seribishane becomes eligible for parole.
