Centurion pedestrian struck by bakkie during morning commute
A Centurion pedestrian was struck by a bakkie in Centurion on Monday morning while on her way to work, leaving emergency crews to treat her at the roadside in cold conditions.
The woman lay on the tar road in significant pain and faced a growing risk of hypothermia as responders waited for Gauteng Provincial Government EMS to arrive.
A PVES Emergency Care Practitioner joined an ILS crew from CERT to assess and treat the patient. Medics gave her two rescue blankets, intravenous fluids and pain relief, then used an eFAST ultrasound to check for serious injuries in the chest and abdomen.
No immediate life-threatening internal injuries were found during the assessment. Once the woman was stabilised, crews handed her over to GPG EMS for further care and transport to an appropriate medical facility. TMPD, CERT-SA and Gauteng Emergency Medical Services attended the scene.
