An Ekangala school search uncovered alcohol, cigarettes and dangerous weapons during a safety operation on 8 August 2026.

Police investigation continues after alcohol discovery

Members of Ekangala SAPS, the Community Policing Forum, local patrollers and the Department of Community Safety carried out the operation at the School of Specialisation.

The search targeted dangerous weapons, illegal drugs and other prohibited items that could threaten learners and educators.

Police confiscated several items, including cigarettes, bottles of alcohol and small bottles of vodka. SAPS said the alcohol was allegedly being sold in the Ekangala area.

Officers then visited a residence linked to the alleged sale. They found several boxes containing the same type of alcohol at the property.

An elderly woman at the residence identified herself as the mother of the person allegedly involved in selling the alcohol. She told police she was unaware of the alleged activity and said her son was not at home.

Police confiscated the items and booked them as exhibits for safekeeping and further investigation.

Tshwane District Commissioner Major-General Samuel Thine praised the joint operation and called for continued cooperation between communities and police.

SAPS said intelligence-driven school searches will continue as part of efforts to protect learners and staff.

‘Creating safe learning environments’ requires cooperation between parents, educators, learners and communities, Thine said.
