According to The South African, the Friday PowerBall jackpot for 14 August 2026 totals R92 million. That sum is made up of an R80 million straight PowerBall jackpot plus an additional R12 million from PowerBall XTRA.

How the pot grew

The South African reports the combined R92 million pot represents an increase of R9 million over Tuesday’s winless roll for R83 million. The last large PowerBall payout occurred on Tuesday 3 July 2026, when R72 million was paid out; since then, eleven successive rollovers have occurred on the PowerBall, The South African says.

PowerBall XTRA rollovers and monthly rule

According to The South African, PowerBall XTRA’s last cascade took place on Friday 31 July 2026, and there have been three rollovers since then. The South African adds that the final PowerBall XTRA game of each month must pay out, regardless of the size of the jackpot.

How to play and costs

The South African explains a standard PowerBall board now costs R10 and PowerBall XTRA costs R5 per board, so playing both together costs R15 in total. Tickets are sold at authorised National Lottery retailers and via participating banking apps, including FNB, Capitec, Standard Bank, ABSA and Nedbank, The South African reports. The publication also says the largest percentage of winners come from banking apps, and that some banking apps force a minimum purchase of two boards per ticket, effectively doubling the entry cost.

Age, odds and the draw

The South African notes players must be 18 years or older to enter. The publication says the jackpot odds have improved from 1 in 42 million to 1 in 33 million, and that PowerBall XTRA carries identical odds to the main draw because it uses the same number matrix. PowerBall and PowerBall XTRA draws take place every Tuesday and Friday at 21:00, The South African states.

Claiming prizes

Per The South African, all PowerBall prizes must be claimed within 365 days of the draw date. Small prizes (up to R4 999) are paid out at licensed retailers, mid-tier prizes (R5 000 to R49 999) can be claimed at selected partner banks, and prizes above R50 000 require an in-person visit to a Sizekhaya regional office with the original ticket and a valid South African ID. The South African also reports that online and banking-app players have prizes up to R249 999 deposited automatically into their accounts.

Unclaimed prizes

The South African reports that around R257 million in lottery prizes currently sits unclaimed across South Africa from the previous operator.
