IEB Matric Achievers from Benoni Commemorate Success with Celebrations

On January 18, the joyous atmosphere of accomplishment enveloped Benoni IEB learners as they eagerly gathered to receive their 2023 matric results, marked by hugs, cheers, and fist bumps.

In 2023, 15,180 learners from 248 registered campuses nationwide completed their final examinations, achieving an impressive 98.46% pass rate, a slight increase from the 2022 rate of 98.42%.

The Benoni City Times team, equipped with cameras, captured the scenes of celebration at Ashton International College, Pinnacle College Rynfield, and St Dunstan’s College as the class of 2023 bid farewell to their schools.

Pinnacle College Rynfield:

Principal Clint Gaffney welcomed 40 matriculants at the entrance hall with a broad smile, proud of the school’s 100% pass rate. Gaffney commended the students for maintaining high standards and setting an incredible benchmark for future classes, expressing confidence in their potential for greatness.

Encouraging the departing matrics in their future endeavours, Gaffney underlined ongoing support and guidance, reminding them that the sky is the limit.

Ashton International College:

The school celebrated a remarkable achievement with a full marks pass rate and 91% of learners securing bachelor’s degrees. Notable accomplishments included two students with seven distinctions and two with six. Top achiever Sydney Stuart garnered outstanding achievements, ranking in the top 5% nationally in six or more subjects and scoring seven in life orientation. Stuart excelled in:

  • Afrikaans, 
  • English, 
  • Geography, 
  • Life orientation, 
  • Life sciences, 
  • Maths, and 
  • Physical science.

Michaela de Freitas also shone with seven distinctions: 

  • Accounting,

  • Geography, 
  • Life orientation,

Principal Lynne Felix and the staff congratulated the learners for their exemplary achievements.

St Dunstan’s College:

The school’s matric class of 2023 celebrated a 100% pass rate, surpassing the previous year’s results with a record number of distinctions. Of the 100 learners who undertook the 2023 IEB examinations, 93% achieved bachelor’s degree exemptions.

Two outstanding students, Karli Janeke and Aidan Jacobs, earned places on the IEB’s outstanding achievement list for being in the top 5% in six or more subjects. Jacobs achieved 100% in mathematics and 98% in Further Studies Mathematics (Extended).

Rector Warwick Taylor credited the school’s success with exceptional collaboration between teachers, learners, and parents. The matric class of 2023 not only produced outstanding results but demonstrated unity and support for each other, embodying the Dustonian spirit.
