French Montana to headline AFROTRAX shows in Cape Town and Johannesburg

International hip-hop star French Montana will headline two major South African shows in December, with a strong line-up of local talent joining him in Cape Town and Johannesburg.

South African hip-hop fans have a big December weekend to look forward to, with international star French Montana set to headline two exclusive AFROTRAX shows in Cape Town and Johannesburg.

The rapper will perform at:

• The Ostrich in Cape Town – Friday, 4 December 2026.
• The Canvas in Johannesburg – Saturday, 5 December.

The shows, presented by AFROTRAX in partnership with PLAYY. Music, are being positioned as more than traditional concerts, with organisers promising a festival-style experience combining music, fashion, food and African culture.

The Cape Town leg will run from 2 pm until midnight and will feature a sizeable supporting cast alongside French Montana. The line-up includes:

• Nasty C
• YoungstaCPT
• 25K
• Jairic
• Rarri
• Kane
• Bassik

For Cape Town audiences, the choice of The Ostrich is likely to enhance the summer festival atmosphere, with the outdoor venue offering a setting distinct from the city’s traditional indoor concert spaces. The event is expected to combine live performances with DJs, food vendors, lifestyle activations and premium hospitality offerings.

The AFROTRAX experience moves to Johannesburg the following day, with the event scheduled at The Canvas.

The Johannesburg show will run from 1 pm to 11 pm. Along with headliner French Montana, the event will feature:

The two-city format gives fans in both major music markets an opportunity to experience the international headliner while also putting some of South Africa’s established and emerging artists on the same bill.

French Montana has built an international career spanning more than a decade, becoming particularly well known for his collaborations and chart-topping singles. His biggest global hit, Unforgettable, has become a defining song of his career, while tracks such as No Stylist, Pop That and Ain’t Worried About Nothin’ have also helped establish his place in mainstream hip-hop.

He has worked with some of the industry’s biggest names, including Drake, The Weeknd, Post Malone, Cardi B, and Swae Lee, and has accumulated billions of streams worldwide.

His appearance in South Africa also taps into the long-standing relationship between African audiences and global hip-hop culture, particularly as South African artists increasingly build international audiences of their own.

AFROTRAX says its bigger ambition is to create a platform that connects African creativity with major international entertainment. The organisers describe the concept as a celebration of African culture, music and fashion, with the French Montana shows serving as the launch point for the brand.

They added that the aim is to create a platform that celebrates African culture while connecting local audiences with influential artists from around the world.

That approach could make the supporting line-up just as important as the headline act, particularly with established South African names such as Cassper Nyovest, Nasty C, Kabza De Small and 25K appearing across the two dates. More artists, VIP experiences and hospitality packages are expected to be revealed ahead of the events.
