DIRCO Condemns Nigeria High Commission’s Handling of Tension in Bafana vs Super Eagles Match

The International Relations Department criticised the Nigerian High Commission for unnecessarily causing alarm ahead of the Bafana Bafana vs Super Eagles match in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Scheduled for Wednesday night, South Africa will face Nigeria in a crucial bid for a spot in the final,  according to EWN.

The Nigerian High Commission cautioned Nigerian football fans in South Africa to avoid provocative celebrations, citing online threats. They urged caution and restraint to prevent potential xenophobic incidents.

DIRCO spokesperson Clayson Monyela criticised the advisory, calling it regrettable and unnecessary, given the peaceful history of past team encounters.

The match between these footballing giants will kick off at 7 pm.
