ANC and EFF fail to attend Joburg council meeting

A council programming committee meeting occurred on Tuesday in the City of Johannesburg. Unfortunately, according to Eyewitness News, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and African National Congress (ANC) did not attend the meeting, causing it to fall flat.

The meeting was supposed to table a motion of no confidence against Thapelo Amad. Initially, ActionSA brought the motion, claiming that service delivery in the city was affected under Amad’s leadership. They also said Amad could not articulate a clear plan for the city.

ActionSA accused the ANC-EFF coalition of delaying tactics now that they could not reach a quorum. ActionSA stated that this was another attempt by the ANC and the EFF to hold on to power since they did not have enough members to defeat the motion of no confidence.

If the programming committee meeting had proceeded, it would have tabled motions of no confidence against Thapelo Amad and the council Speaker Colleen Makhubele. ActionSA wants both individuals removed from their positions and will seek legal advice.
