The Home Affairs Minister has extended the deadline for public comments on the White Paper on Citizenship, Immigration and Refugee Protection. Aaron Motsoaledi said citizens have until the end of January. EWN reports that the move aims to allow more public input on the proposed “complete overhaul” of the Citizenship, immigration, and Refugees Acts, initially set to close on 19 January.

The white paper, introduced in November, seeks to address the “new challenges” associated with South African migration by consolidating the existing acts into a single piece of legislation. Those interested in participating in the public comment process can download the White Paper and the explanatory memorandum from www.dha.gov.za.
