Fannie Masemola has informed Parliament’s justice committee that officials from G4S at Mangaung Correctional Centre did not cooperate with the police

National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola has informed Parliament’s justice committee that officials from G4S at Mangaung Correctional Centre did not cooperate with the police regarding the escape of convicted murderer and rapist Thabo Bester, as reported by Eyewitness News. During the briefing, Masemola also questioned Bester’s DNA and whether Maria Mabaso, who claimed to be his mother, was related to him.

Members of Parliament questioned the police regarding the security lapses at the prison, and Masemola informed them that G4S did not provide much assistance during the investigation. Masemola further examined Bester’s DNA and confirmed that it took a long time to investigate whether Mabaso was Bester’s mother, as they had to contact relatives to verify her identity.

Earlier, the committee heard evidence from inspecting judge Edwin Cameron, who claimed that G4S had ignored evidence.
