According to the department, the blackouts were putting a major strain on resources as reported by ENCA.

The application was brought by Action SA, the UDM, the IFP, and 17 others, but the government has significant concerns about the judgment.

However, Gauteng Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko expressed relief at the order, stating that the blackouts had been a major frustration and expense for the department.
