Derek Watts has been diagnosed with severe sepsis

Derek Watts, a well-known presenter on South Africa’s investigative journalism show Carte Blanche, is recovering at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg after collapsing in Hoedspruit in March. According to News24, on Sunday, he informed his Twitter followers that he had been diagnosed with severe sepsis, which “destroyed” his body within an hour. Watts has been receiving treatment and is now learning to walk again.

Sepsis is a severe condition when the body responds improperly to an infection, causing organs to work poorly. If untreated, sepsis can become septic shock, leading to severe organ damage or death.

Watts expressed his determination to return to the show, writing on Twitter that he would be “back on your #CarteBlanche screen asap.” In response, Carte Blanche tweeted its support and well wishes for his recovery. In addition, the executive producer, John Webb, praised Watts’ dedication to his work and confirmed that he would return to the show when he fully recovered.
