During the weekend, a large-scale operation was carried out in Soweto, Gauteng, by Provincial Police Commissioner Elias Mawela and a team of senior management members. The operation’s objective was to enforce the laws and by-laws in the province as reported by Eyewitnes News.
Over 100 individuals were arrested as a result of the operation on charges ranging from possession of unlicensed firearms, drugs, and contravention of the Precious Metal Act, to driving under the influence of alcohol and undocumented foreign nationals.
The Okae Molao operations are conducted regularly to assist local police stations in maintaining law and order in the province.
Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo confirmed the arrests and emphasized that those arrested would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
The operation proved successful in capturing lawbreakers and is expected to serve as a warning to those who may consider engaging in criminal activities in the area.
