It’s Difficult to Say When Gauteng Water Shortages Will Be Solved

Minister of Water and Sanitation Senzo Mchunu spoke about the ongoing water shortages in Gauteng and acknowledged the difficulties in predicting when the city will resolve the problem, according to Eyewitness News. Therefore, despite numerous interventions to resolve the issue, residents must be patient while the city carries them out.

Rand Water cited a pump failure at its Eikenhof Station as the cause of the water shortage. However, other factors such as climate change, poor management, and lack of maintenance of ageing infrastructure have also contributed to the problem.

The minister and his team have created short-term and long-term plans to address the issue. However, Mchunu urged residents to be patient as these interventions take place.

In the meantime, water tankers are being deployed throughout the City of Joburg and Ekurhuleni to provide relief.
