More than R230k raised for Elizabeth ‘Tsontso’ Moselakgomo’s daughter after funeral tribute

More than R230 000 has been raised to support Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo’s eight‑year‑old daughter, Khumo, after the child delivered an emotional tribute at her mother’s funeral, according to The South African.

Fundraising drive surpasses its goal

According to The South African, the authorised fundraising campaign originally set a target of R50 000. Donations quickly pushed the total past R100 000, and by Sunday the fund had reportedly climbed to more than R230 000.

Who started the campaign and where the money will go

Members of the running community helped launch and drive the initiative. The Reidlee running community and fellow runner Bonnie Suckling were involved, with Suckling approaching BackaBuddy to set up support for Moselakgomo’s daughter, The South African reports.

BackaBuddy describes the campaign as verified and says the money will go towards supporting Moselakgomo’s daughter. An educational trust has also been established for Khumo to support her education and provide financial stability.

Community response

The initiative has attracted hundreds of donors, The South African says, as members of the running community and others rallied to help ensure Khumo’s future needs are covered.

Tribute at the funeral

Khumo stood before mourners at her mother’s funeral in Phake, Mpumalanga, and read a poem as a farewell. The South African quotes a line from her tribute:

“I have gained a beautiful angel in you.”

The poem concluded with Khumo referring to herself as her mother’s “beautiful princess Khumo,” The South African reports.
