R87 120 worth of dagga seized, four arrested after Kimberley taxi-rank raids

Police in Kimberley seized dagga with an estimated street value of R87 120 and arrested four people after stop-and-search operations at taxi ranks on Sunday.

Stop-and-search at taxi ranks led to wider probe

Members of the Kimberley Public Order Police carried out the operation at around 2:30pm on Sunday, 20 September. During a search at a taxi rank they found a male suspect in possession of two small bags containing dagga. The man provided information that led officers to another taxi rank where a vehicle with three occupants was located and searched.

Searches expanded to two premises

Following the vehicle search and further investigation, police executed searches at two separate premises in Kimberley and Galeshewe. Searches at those premises resulted in the discovery of a large quantity of dagga and ammunition.

Items seized and charges

Police seized dagga with an estimated street value of R87 120, as well as ammunition and a Ford Figo believed to have been used in the commission of a crime. Four suspects were arrested: three men aged between 31 and 34 and a 27-year-old woman. The suspects are suspected to be foreign nationals.

The suspects are facing charges of possession of drugs and possession of unlicensed ammunition and are expected to appear in court soon.

Police response and next steps

The operation began as a routine stop-and-search at a taxi rank and expanded after information provided by an initial suspect led investigators to additional locations. Further legal proceedings will follow as the arrested suspects await court appearances.
