Two motorists killed, four injured after SUV crash near N17 in Springs
Two adult motorists died and four passengers, including a minor, were injured after two SUVs collided on Wit Road near the N17 in Springs, emergency services said.
Two motorists died and four passengers, including a minor, were injured after two sport-utility vehicles collided on Wit Road near the N17 in Selection Park, Springs, on Sunday evening.
What happened
The collision occurred at 6:17pm on Wit Road near the N17. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) from Ekurhuleni responded to the crash involving two SUVs.
Casualties and response
Ekurhuleni EMS spokesperson William Ntladi said both drivers were adult men who suffered fatal injuries and were declared dead at the scene by paramedics. Four passengers, including a minor, were injured. They were treated at the scene and transported to a nearby medical facility.
Entrapment and rescue
On arrival, rescue crews found both drivers still trapped behind their steering wheels.
“The rescue team had to use specialised hydraulic rescue equipment (Jaws-of-Life) to access, free and recover the entrapped patients and deceased drivers from two wrecks.”
Teams from the Selection Park Fire Station carried out life-preservation services and freed the occupants.
Aftermath and investigation
The entire road was temporarily closed for the duration of the rescue operation. After rescue efforts concluded, the scene was handed over to the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department for on-scene investigations, removal of the deceased to a pathological facility, and road rehabilitation due to oil spillage and debris from the crashed vehicles.

Emergency services carried out coordinated rescue and medical work at the scene before handing responsibilities to metropolitan police for investigation and cleanup.
