Brazen Robbery at Mpumalanga Traffic Department: Six Suspects on the Run

Police in Mhala, Mpumalanga, are appealing for public assistance following a daring armed robbery at the local traffic department around midnight on Wednesday.

According to provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, six armed men—wielding pistols and a rifle, ambushed three on-duty security guards. “They forced the guards into an office at gunpoint and broke through two burglar doors to access a safe,” said Ndubane.

The suspects allegedly damaged the safe and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing. No injuries were reported during the incident.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact Detective Sergeant Collen Nyalungu at 076 936 7222, or call Crime Stop at 08600 10111. Tip-offs can also be submitted via the MySAPSApp, and anonymity is guaranteed.

This isn’t the first time Mpumalanga has faced a security breach involving firearms. In a 2022 incident, assailants posing as domestic violence victims gained entry to Grootvlei police station and stole multiple firearms and ammunition.

As police continue their investigation, authorities are counting on the community to help track down the suspects involved in this latest crime.
