25 Years for the Shadow: Modimolle Man Who Hid in Women’s Cars, Robbed Them at Knifepoint Jailed
A 38-year-old Limpopo man who preyed on women by hiding inside their vehicles and robbing them at knifepoint has been sentenced to an effective 25 years’ imprisonment by the Modimolle Regional Court.
Satiel Ramadikela Molobi was convicted on two counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances, two counts of kidnapping, and one count of theft out of a motor vehicle.
The Sentence
Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba detailed the sentencing:
-
20 years on each count of robbery with aggravating circumstances
-
5 years for the kidnapping counts (combined)
-
5 years for theft out of a motor vehicle
The court ordered the sentences to run concurrently, resulting in an effective 25-year prison term. Molobi was also declared unfit to possess a firearm and/or ammunition under the Firearms Control Act.
How He Operated
The convictions stem from incidents in February 2024 in Modimolle, where Molobi specifically targeted female victims.
His method was chilling in its simplicity and terror. He would wait at residential gates. When a victim stopped and exited her vehicle to open the gate, he would slip inside and hide.
Upon the victim’s return, he would threaten her with a knife and force her to drive around town while robbing her of money, cellphones, and jewellery. Then, as suddenly as he appeared, he would flee on foot.
Justice Served
Following the circulation of information and an intensive investigation, Molobi was traced and arrested.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe praised Sergeant Karabo Monyeki of the Modimolle Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit for his “dedication and commitment” in securing the conviction and sentence.
Police said the outcome underscores their resolve to ensure perpetrators of violent crime are removed from communities and that justice is served for victims.
A Message to Predators
For the women of Modimolle, the sentence brings a measure of closure. For Molobi, 25 years behind bars is the price of terrorising strangers in the dark.
The case is a reminder that justice, however delayed, can still arriveand that those who hide in shadows will eventually be brought into the light.
