Madlanga Commission to consult Feroz Khan’s lawyers after shooting leaves him hospitalised

The Madlanga Commission said it is in contact with Major‑General Feroz Khan’s legal representatives to determine the next steps after the senior Crime Intelligence officer was shot and remains in a serious condition in hospital.

Who, what and where

Khan was wounded in a shooting in Houghton, Johannesburg, on Sunday, 28 June 2026. He is in a serious condition at Milpark Hospital after the attack, which involved two unidentified assailants travelling in a white Mercedes‑Benz.

Commission response and Khan’s expected testimony

Jeremy Michaels, the commission’s spokesperson, said the body is aware of Khan’s injuries and wishes him a speedy recovery. Michaels told reporters the commission will engage Khan’s legal team to decide how to proceed regarding his scheduled testimony.

“The commission is aware that General Khan was wounded in a shooting incident in Johannesburg last night, and the commission wishes him a speedy recovery,”

Khan had been expected to testify before the commission on Wednesday, 1 July 2026. Michaels said that, given Khan’s hospitalisation, his appearance this week is now uncertain and the commission will make a further announcement after consulting his lawyers.

Investigation into the shooting

Police have not confirmed a motive. SAPS ballistic experts were reported to have been at the scene, and the South African Police Service has launched a high‑level probe into the attempted assassination, according to the source.

Brigadier Athlenda Mathe told the publication that the Hawks, Crime Intelligence and the Detective Service are leading the investigation, and that the Political Killings Task Team has also been involved to pursue leads.

Background to Khan’s role with the commission

Michaels described Khan as a “key witness” before the commission. The article notes that Khan had previously approached the Gauteng High Court with an urgent interdict application seeking to prevent the commission from examining data retrieved from devices seized after his arrest on 10 May, and that he faces allegations being probed by the commission.

Michaels declined to discuss whether Khan had submitted an affidavit before 22 June 2026 and said the commission would deal with scheduling once it had engaged Khan’s legal representatives.

What officials have said

“We deal with facts, not conjecture. What we do know is General Khan was wounded in a shooting incident last night, and the Saps investigation is underway,”

Michaels said, adding that the commission’s priority is to consult Khan’s legal representatives and determine the way forward.

The Madlanga Commission will consult Major‑General Feroz Khan’s lawyers before making further decisions about his testimony.
