Stephen and his dog Fireman reunited after difficult journey to Karonga

Stephen Black Lion Singhini and his dog, Fireman, have been reunited in Karonga, Malawi after weeks of uncertainty and long-distance travel, the organisation that helped arrange their return said in a social media announcement.

Final stretch tested owner and dog

St Francis Animal Rescue said the pair’s last leg, from Lilongwe to Karonga, was particularly difficult. According to the organisation, Singhini and Fireman relied on lifts from two long-distance haulage trucks as they navigated severely damaged roads before reaching their destination.

How the reunion was arranged

The rescue group said it stepped in after Singhini was forced to leave South Africa amid tensions affecting foreign nationals. St Francis Animal Rescue raised funds to cover Fireman’s vaccinations, microchipping, travel crate, veterinary care and flight to Malawi, enabling the dog to travel by air to join his owner.

A homecoming in Karonga

Sharing the news of the arrival, the organisation wrote:

“Singhini and his beloved dog, Fireman, have finally reached their destination after long, hard days of travelling.”

The rescue added:

“Happily, their adventure is over, and they are now safely at home with Stephen’s mother and daughter in Karonga. This is a happy reunion, and we wish the Singhini family all the best as a new chapter begins.”

Community support

St Francis Animal Rescue thanked the many donors and supporters whose generosity helped make the reunion possible, describing the outcome as the result of collective kindness and compassion.
