One killed and three injured in N2 crash near Durban

At least one person was killed and three others injured after two vehicles collided on the N2 northbound near Durban, according to The Citizen.

What happened

The Citizen reports the accident occurred on the N2 northbound just after the M7 Edwin Swales turnoff on Tuesday night. Emergency services responded to the scene following the collision.

Scene and casualties

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson described the scene as leaving a “trail of wreckage and chaos” and said the collision was a rear-end collision.

“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find chaos and carnage as they found that two vehicles had collided in a rear-end collision,” Jamieson said.

According to The Citizen, Jamieson said one person, a male believed to be in his thirties who had been sitting in the rear of the vehicle, sustained major injuries and was declared deceased at the scene. He added that three other occupants from both vehicles sustained various injuries, were stabilised on scene and transported to Durban hospitals for further care.

Investigation

The Citizen reports that SA Police Service and Metro Police officers were on site and will investigate the events leading up to the crash. Jamieson said the events leading up to the collision are unknown.

Emergency response

ALS Paramedics provided on-scene treatment before the injured were taken to hospital, according to The Citizen.
