Competitive road running in Alexandra will return in 2024. The Adreach Alex 10K will occur on March 21, next year. After almost a decade without formal road races in Alexandra, Run Alex Athletics Club initiated the Adreach Alex 10K, promising a route that explores significant historical sites like Mandela House. The Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA), the provincial governing body, has approved the event, aligning with Human Rights Day on March 21. The success of last year’s fun run organised by the club prompted the CGA to officially grant rights for a formal 10km race in Alexandra, now marked as the #ADREACHALEX10K on the CGA calendar.

Adreach Group, committed to projects fostering positive change in Alexandra, has solidified its support for the race with a three-year platinum sponsorship partnership with Run Alex. Lebogang Mogotlane, chairperson of Run Alex Athletics Club, expressed excitement about the collaboration, aiming to rejuvenate road running in the icon

In addition to Adreach Group, Run Alex has joined forces with Alex Plaza Shopping Centre, where the race will start and finish. Lic township. The Adreach Group’s business development director, Zuza Mbatha, emphasised their dedication to guiding the race’s growth and ensuring community benefits. Lebogang Legwale, the centre manager, highlighted the ample parking space and shopping amenities available to meet the needs of race participants. The partnership reflects a collective effort to revive road running in Alexandra and contribute to the community’s upliftment, reinforcing the township’s status as a breeding ground for sporting champions.
