Registration Now Available for the Dis-Chem Half-Marathon

Entries are now open for the Dis-Chem Half-Marathon and 5km Fun Run presented by Momentum Multiply, scheduled for January 14. The race, organised by Bedfordview Country Club Athletics, offers novice and seasoned runners an opportunity to participate in Gauteng’s premier half-marathon.

Runners can look forward to tackling the challenging route through the scenic hills of Bedfordview, Morninghill, and Primrose. Race marshals will line the route to support and encourage participants as they take on this athletic endeavour.

For those looking to stay hydrated along the way, six water points will be equipped with Coke and water sachets to energise runners throughout the race.

Charnia Yapp, race director, expressed excitement about hosting the 22nd edition of the race with a fresh rebrand, emphasising the invaluable support of sponsors like Dis-Chem.

Dis-Chem’s Health Category Marketing Manager, Brandon Fairweather, underscored the company’s commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle and overall well-being, aligning perfectly with the race’s spirit. He praised the enduring partnership with Bedfordview Country Club Athletics and their continuous delivery of exceptional events.

This event is possible through sponsoring companies such as Centrum, Norflex Gel, Smecta, TransAct, Essentiale ViralChoice, Biogen, Vaseline, and Gillette.

Momentum Health Solutions, represented by Márcia Eugenio, Head of Multiply Incentivized Wellness, is thrilled about their partnership with the Dis-Chem Half-Marathon and 5km Dash. It resonates with their goal of encouraging members to make healthier choices and stay active.

Given the event’s popularity, you should secure your spot promptly, as the race tends to sell out within a couple of weeks of opening entries. 6,000 entries are available for the 21km race, and all participants will receive a technical race T-shirt and a goodie bag.

Entries will close on December 15 or once all 6,000 available spots are sold. Additionally, the 5km Fun Run is back with 1,000 entries open, each receiving a pair of Centrum-branded socks.

The Dis-Chem Half-Marathon features a seeded start and will be officially timed. The race kicks off on Riley Road at 06:00 on January 14. The 5km Dash will also be timed, starting at 06:30 on the same day.

For participants’ convenience, the event will offer club gazebos, catering, locker, and shower facilities at the finish line.

This race celebrates the joy of running and seeks to make a positive impact. Funds raised during the event will support two race charities: Lambano Sanctuary for Orphaned Children with HIV and the Namaqua Dog and Donkey Foundation, dedicated to the welfare of animals in informal settlements on the East Rand. The Dis-Chem Foundation will match all donations made by runners above their entry fees.
