Adams denies Brown Mogotsi’s involvement in Orlando cases at Madlanga Commission
Suspended MP Fadiel Adams told the Madlanga Commission he did not enlist Brown Mogotsi to open Orlando criminal cases and said documents were slipped under his parliamentary office door.
Suspended MP Fadiel Adams returned to the Madlanga Commission on Thursday and denied that Brown Mogotsi played any role in prompting him to open criminal cases against senior Crime Intelligence officials in Orlando.
Adams points to late contact as basis for charges
Adams told the commission that his contact was the late General Andre Lincoln, who he said advised him to lay the criminal charges. Lincoln died last year, a fact the commission noted means Adams’ account cannot be independently confirmed.
Documents and parliamentary disclosure
The MP has been unable to explain why he did not present the documents relating to the alleged criminal cases to Parliament, despite their potential relevance to the allegations he has raised.
How the material reached him
Adams denied unlawfully obtaining or distributing classified Crime Intelligence material, saying the documents had been slipped under the door of his parliamentary office. He told the commission the information raised concerns about alleged corruption, secret funds, police vetting and the handling of investigations.
On criticism of the Political Killings Task Team
Adams rejected suggestions that his criticism of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) was personal, saying his concerns were about accountability and the unit’s finances. He told the commission the task team had an annual budget of R100 million while investigating approximately 130 murder dockets over three years.
The inquiry continues.
