City Power scrambles to fix the Cydna substation

Parts of Johannesburg have experienced prolonged electricity outages as City Power scrambles to fix the Cydna substation. According to Polity, City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena revealed that the Inanda distributor from Cydna tripped on Saturday due to multiple cable faults, affecting the supply to areas such as Melrose, Athol, Inanda, Illovo, and nearby regions.

Despite the tireless efforts of the City Power team, who worked around the clock and over challenging terrain, attempts to restore power were hindered by additional faults along the same cable, as explained by Mangena. Initially aiming to complete repairs by midnight on Monday, technicians discovered a third fault, necessitating the replacement of the entire cable with 300 meters of new cable to mitigate future restoration complications.
