Diepsloot police seize crystal meth worth over R500 000

Diepsloot police seized about 2kg of crystal meth worth more than R500 000 during an operation targeting the suspected storage and distribution of illegal drugs on Monday, 28 September, Joburg {etc} reports.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), members of the Diepsloot Crime Prevention Unit acted on information from a registered informant about a known target who was allegedly due to receive a consignment of about 3kg of crystal meth.

The drugs were reportedly intended for distribution and sale in the area, with the expected consignment estimated to have a street value of more than R700 000.

Two suspects arrested in Diepsloot operation

Police responded to the information and searched a spaza shop in the Diepsloot informal settlement.

During the operation, officers seized approximately 2kg of crystal meth, which SAPS estimates to be worth more than R500 000.

The intended target reportedly fled shortly before police could make an arrest.

Two other suspects, identified by SAPS as Ethiopian and Malawian nationals, were subsequently arrested in connection with the suspected possession and distribution of illegal narcotics.

The suspects are expected to appear in court on charges relating to the possession and distribution of illegal drugs.

SAPS said the operation formed part of efforts to remove illegal narcotics from communities.
