Experienced Radio and Television Host Mark Pilgrim Passes Away

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Mark Pilgrim, a renowned radio and television presenter. Pilgrim lost his courageous battle with cancer on March 5, 2023, at 10:45 am. HOT 102.7 FM released an online statement confirming that he passed away peacefully at home in the presence of his fiancée Adrienne.

Pilgrim, who had been in remission for 33 years, announced last year that he had been re-diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. Despite his illness, he remained optimistic and shared his journey on social media, inspiring others to stay positive and raise awareness.

Pilgrim was a beloved figure in the South African broadcasting industry, known for his exceptional talent, skill, and positive attitude. He began his radio career in the 1980s at Voice of Wits campus radio and went on to work at various radio stations, including 5FM, 94.7 Highveld Stereo, KFM, and Hot 91.9FM.

During his career, Pilgrim won numerous awards, including the MTN Radio Award for Best Weekend Radio Show in South Africa in 2015 and the Liberty Radio Award for the Best Daytime Show in South Africa in 2019. In recognition of his significant contributions to the industry, he was inducted into the South African Radio Awards Hall of Fame in 2021.

Pilgrim was also a notable television presenter, hosting Big Brother South Africa, Big Brother Africa, and the MNET game show Power of 10. His passing is a great loss to the industry, and he will be greatly missed by his colleagues and fans alike.
