Fraudulent 'Doctor' Matthew Lani Set for Initial Court Appearance

Social media influencer “Dr. Matthew Lani” is scheduled to make his initial court appearance after falsely claiming to be a doctor, leading to his arrest at Helen Joseph Hospital over the weekend. The Gauteng Department of Health had previously filed a case of impersonation against him.

The 27-year-old suspect will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court, having been apprehended by security guards and subsequently arrested by police at the hospital as reported by Eyewitness News.

It’s alleged that he attempted to escape through a bathroom window after being caught.

Notably, his real name is not “Matthew Lani,” but Sanele Zingelwa, which led to further complications when it was revealed that this name belonged to a legitimate second-year medical intern at Tembisa Provincial Tertiary Hospital, who also filed a criminal case against him.
