President of Portugal makes exciting visit to Turffontein Portuguese Hall

South Africa hosted Portugal’s president, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, as he inaugurated the celebrations for Portugal/Camões/Portuguese Communities Day at Turffontein Portuguese Hall.

The event, which commemorates Portugal Day and honours the Portuguese diaspora, saw the participation of prominent figures, including Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa and Foreign Minister Joao Gomes Cravinho.

Prime Minister Costa joined the celebrations after concluding his state visit to Angola.

In addition to the festivities in Johannesburg, the Portuguese president also visited Cape Town and Pretoria as part of his South African tour to mark the special day. Each year, the Portuguese president travels to a different country to engage with and celebrate alongside the Portuguese communities living abroad.
