Renowned bowler Sanette Kritzinger, a stalwart from Harlequins Bowling Club in Pretoria and with over 20 years of experience, has been appointed as the new president of Gauteng Bowls (GB). This announcement follows the conclusion of Craig Hall’s tenure at Ekurhuleni Bowls and Alberton Bowling Club. Kritzinger, who has served on the executive committee of Bowls Gauteng North (BGN) and managed the BGN ladies’ district teams, will officially assume her role at the beginning of the new year. Her extensive portfolio includes overseeing the five provincial districts of Ekurhuleni Bowls, Sedibeng Bowls, Johannesburg Bowls Association (JBA), Sables Bowling Association, and BGN, collectively representing over 6,000 members.

“As the newly elected president of Gauteng Bowls, I embrace the responsibility, looking forward to implementing fresh, new, and exciting changes to grow the interest in this great sport,” expressed Kritzinger.

Joining her executive team is Mike Hunt from Ekurhuleni Bowls (EKB) as secretary and Wimpie Muller from BGN as treasurer. A dedicated team of delegates will also support Kritzinger, including Alana Warrender from EKB, Rob Zimmerman from the JBA, Basil le Granje from BGN, and Raymond Hocknell from Sedibeng Bowls.

In a strategic move, GB has formed a media and marketing team headed by Chantal Nel, responsible for managing the BGN and JBA districts, and Chantal Henn, overseeing the EKB, Sedibeng, and Sables districts. Kritzinger emphasized the significance of this team, stating, “They will ensure anything and all things related to bowls are seen and heard in the right places at the right time.”

The upcoming season kicks off with the Gauteng Challenge in Sedibeng, where top bowlers from various districts will compete for the provincial title. Gauteng, boasting the largest number of bowlers in the national Protea team and over 6,000 bowlers, stands as the premier bowling province, according to Kritzinger.
