A quiet Sunday in East London turned into a crime scene of unimaginable tragedy when a married couple, including a woman just weeks away from giving birth, were shot dead at their home in Dice, Reeston.

Police say the attack happened on the evening of 4 August 2025. It has left neighbours, relatives, and the wider community reeling, with officers now hunting for those responsible.

Neighbours Hear Gunfire

The alarm was raised when gunshots echoed through the neighbourhood. Concerned neighbours rushed to the couple’s home, only to be met with a horrific sight.

According to SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana, the 35-year-old pregnant woman was found lying outside the kitchen door. She had been shot twice in the left thigh and once in the stomach. Her unborn child, estimated to be eight to nine months along, also did not survive.

Inside the home, police discovered the 40-year-old husband. He was found face down behind the kitchen door, with two gunshot wounds to his chest and another to his neck.

No Known Motive, No Arrests Yet

Investigators have not yet established what led to the killings. No suspects have been arrested, and police say they are pursuing all leads.

Brigadier Gantana urged anyone with information to come forward, stressing that tip-offs can be given anonymously to Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or directly to Scenery Park SAPS.

Police Condemn the Violence

Senior officers have condemned the attack in the strongest terms, describing it as a senseless act that has robbed a family of their future. “The SAPS strongly condemns this act of violence and assures the community that all necessary resources are being utilised to ensure justice is served,” said Gantana.

A Community in Mourning

In Reeston, a place where neighbours often know each other by name, the killings have cut deep. For many, the image of an expectant mother and her husband losing their lives so violently is too much to bear. Social media posts from local residents speak of heartbreak, disbelief, and calls for swift justice.

As police continue their manhunt, the grief-stricken community is left with questions and a growing fear about the violence that claimed two lives and one unborn child in their midst.
