According to The South African, the R10-million total is made up of R7 million for Lotto, R1.5 million for Lotto Plus 1 and R1.7 million for the Lotto Max 5.

According to The South African, since the new operator Sizekhaya took over, its tiered payout system has been paying out almost every game and has “turned the twice-weekly game into something closer to the daily lotto.”

How to play and the odds

Players choose six different numbers between 1 and 52. There is the option to select numbers manually or to use Quick Pick, which selects numbers at random. A new feature allows selecting one extra number (MP1) at 7x the ticket price.

Prizes are awarded to players who match at least three of the six drawn numbers, with larger prizes for more matches. The odds of matching all six numbers are 1 in 20 358 520.
