Shebeshxt denied bail again as Limpopo High Court finds no new facts

Lehlogonolo “Shebeshxt” Chauke remains in custody after the Limpopo High Court in Polokwane dismissed his latest bail application, ruling that his legal team failed to present any new facts or exceptional circumstances.

According to IOL, the court found that the material put forward by Shebeshxt’s defence was recycled and did not amount to the “new facts” required to overturn the earlier refusal of bail.

What the defence and State told the court

IOL reports that Senior Counsel Laurence Hodes, leading the musician’s legal team, offered R100,000 bail and proposed that Shebeshxt accept house arrest. The defence also raised his celebrity reputation, alleged failures by Correctional Services to provide necessary medical care for his injuries, and the hardship of being separated from his newborn child.

The State successfully argued that those points had already been advanced in earlier proceedings and were therefore recycled. The court noted that separation from a newborn is a hardship shared by all awaiting-trial inmates and did not qualify as an exceptional circumstance.

Charges and next court date

According to IOL, Shebeshxt was arrested in November 2025 over an alleged road rage shooting incident in Polokwane. He remains in custody and is facing 21 criminal charges, including attempted murder, assault and culpable homicide.

IOL states that his main case at the Polokwane Regional Court has been postponed to 10 September 2026 to allow his legal team to consult on newly added charges.
