Durban man shot and killed in Reservoir Hills hijacking, vehicle later recovered

A Durban man died in hospital after being shot during a hijacking outside his home, according to IOL. The incident took place in Reservoir Hills on Wednesday night.

What happened

According to IOL, the man drove into his garage and was followed in by another vehicle. Neighbours then heard a gunshot; when they investigated they found the man injured in the garage and his car had been taken. He was rushed to hospital by his family and later died.

Community response and vehicle recovery

According to IOL, the Reservoir Hills Community Police Subforum (RHCPS) circulated an alert and community safety partners mobilised after the attack. The hijacked vehicle was recovered in a graveyard in Clermont near Pinetown.

Calls for vigilance

According to IOL, RHCPS spokesperson Lee Maharajh said the incident highlighted the threat posed by armed criminals and urged residents to remain vigilant.

“This incident once again highlights the very real threat posed by armed criminals and the urgent need for every member of our community to remain vigilant. Criminals rely on opportunity, anonymity and a lack of community awareness. We cannot afford to become complacent,”

the spokesperson said, as reported by IOL.

Security partners mobilised

According to IOL, the rapid response involved Inkosi Security, PT Alarms and Magma Security working with the RHCPS team, which contributed to the recovery of the vehicle.

Ongoing concerns

According to IOL, the RHCPS called for increased visible policing and urged residents to join organised street patrols and community safety initiatives. The RHCPS emphasised that security is a shared responsibility and said it would continue deploying its team alongside security partners to maintain safety in the area.
