Controversial North West businessman Suliman Carrim is expected back before the Madlanga Commission on Friday, four months after he allegedly collapsed at a gym following a heart attack.

Repeated postponements

Carrim’s testimony has been postponed five times since April, with his lawyers repeatedly citing his medical condition as the reason for the delays.

Evidence and scrutiny

The delays have attracted scrutiny after evidence leaders presented information indicating Carrim was seen at a Cape Town restaurant during a period when he was reportedly too ill to testify.

Commission moves to verify fitness

The commission has ordered an independent medical assessment to establish whether Carrim is genuinely unable to appear, drawing a line under further postponements.

What’s at stake on Friday

Carrim’s return is being closely watched. Friday’s appearance could either answer questions about his fitness or trigger another confrontation over his medical condition and the evidence surrounding his repeated absence.
