Double murder at Beitbridge truck stop leaves two men dead

Police in Limpopo have opened a double-murder investigation after two men were found shot dead at the Limpopo Truck Stop in Beitbridge. The victims, aged 51 and 32, were discovered with fatal gunshot wounds beside a Toyota Wish displaying Zimbabwean registration plates.

What happened

Police received a report of a shooting at the truck stop and responded to the scene. On arrival, they found the two men lying next to the vehicle. Emergency Medical Services personnel attended and certified both men dead.

Police statement and recovery

Limpopo police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Masekela Magoro said:

“Upon arrival, members found two males lying next to a Toyota Wish bearing Zimbabwean registration plates. Both victims had sustained gunshot wounds.”

Magoro said the deceased had sustained gunshot wounds to their upper bodies. He also confirmed that police recovered an unlicensed firearm with no serial number during the investigation.

The firearm was discovered after the vehicle was handed over to the wife of one of the deceased. It contained one magazine loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition. An additional enquiry docket was opened in connection with the recovery of the firearm.

Investigation and appeal for information

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear and are part of an ongoing police investigation. No arrests have been made.
