30 June protest hotspots to avoid in South Africa today
South Africans across the country are being told to plan their Tuesday with care, as authorities brace for nationwide protests against undocumented immigration that could disrupt major routes in both Gauteng and the Western Cape.
According to a hotspot list published by Arrive Alive, Gauteng carries the highest concentration of risk, with the Johannesburg CBD, Newtown, Hillbrow, Main Reef Road, Dragon City and the N1 and N12 corridors all flagged as high risk for road blockades and crowd activity. In the Western Cape, Mossel Bay, Kwanonqaba, Kleinmond and Gansbaai have been rated high risk, while Cape Town metro itself sits at medium risk for flash mobilisation and transport delays.

Businesstech reports, President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged demonstrators to protest peacefully, stressing that the right to protest ‘does not allow people to threaten or intimidate others, or to engage in acts of vandalism or violence.’
SAPS Lieutenant-General Tebello Mosikili confirmed Public Order Policing units and specialised response teams are on standby nationally, saying contingency plans had been tested and there would be ‘no security vacuum.’
Whether you’re commuting through Joburg’s CBD or driving the Garden Route, motorists are advised to check traffic updates, avoid flagged hotspots and build in extra travel time on Tuesday.
