Gauteng police intercept hijacked Nissan Micra, recover guns and ammo in Danville operation

Gauteng police intercepted a hijacked Nissan Micra in Danville on Wednesday, 12 August 2026, handcuffing four people aged between 22 and 26 and recovering weapons, ammunition and other items during a multidisciplinary operation.

High‑impact operation in Pretoria West

Police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said the operation involved members of the Saps Gauteng Highway Patrol, Tactical Response Team (TRT), Pretoria West Detectives, CAP Specialised Operations and Tracker Connect. It formed part of ongoing efforts to combat serious and violent crimes in Pretoria West, Laudium and surrounding areas.

What officers found

According to Sibeko, the vehicle intercepted was a Nissan Micra allegedly used in the commission of serious and violent crimes. A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of:

• Three unlicensed firearms
• ammunition
• false registration plates
• stained money
• cellphones

The vehicle was seized for further investigation.

Investigations continue

Sibeko said police are investigating the possibility that the suspects may be involved in hijackings, kidnappings and armed robberies committed in the Tshwane District. Investigations are continuing to establish their possible involvement in other serious and violent crimes.

“It is reported that police intercepted a Nissan Micra allegedly used in the commission of serious and violent crimes and arrested all four occupants,” Sibeko said.

The four people are expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 14 August 2026.

Separate attempted CIT robbery in KwaZulu‑Natal

Also on Wednesday night, 12 August 2026, an attempted cash‑in‑transit robbery in KwaZulu‑Natal ended without the CIT vehicle being bombed. The incident happened on the N2 northbound near the M7 in Durban, where suspects robbed guards of some personal belongings and firearms before fleeing the scene.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said paramedics attended the scene, no injuries were sustained, and the area was secured by Saps and metro police. The freeway was closed for several hours to allow investigations to continue.
