Drumstruck: Iconic Musical Wine-Tasting Returns to Silvermist

Last summer, Silvermist hosted the captivating 5-star African drum-theatre show Drumstruck, accompanied by wine tastings courtesy of owner and winemaker Gregory Brink Louw. The show deemed the ‘most authentic and interactive African experience in Cape Town,’ will make its return in November.

Drumstruck has been enchanting audiences worldwide since its inception in Johannesburg in 2002, with tours spanning the Far East, Europe, Australia, and even off-Broadway in New York, drawing the attention of celebrities like Nicole Kidman, Kevin Bacon, and Rosie O’Donnell. A recent partnership with Dolly Parton at her theme park in Nashville even left the country music star exclaiming, ‘I’m dumbstruck over Drumstruck.’

Producer Warren Lieberman brings the show back to South Africa post-COVID to share the transformative power of drumming with locals and tourists, offering insight into traditional African music. The Cape Town version may be scaled down compared to international productions but retains the essence of storytelling, interaction, fun, and showmanship.

A team of accomplished percussionists and performers, including Mpho Rasenyalo, Tumelo Seleke, and Zama Qambi, guide audiences through the rich musical heritage of South Africa, from ancient drums to modern electronic instruments. Every audience member receives their own djembe drum and participates in a collective celebration of African music and culture.

The Silvermist Organic Wine Estate, perched atop Constantia Nek with expansive views, provides a fitting setting for Drumstruck. Silvermist’s owner, Gregory Brink Louw, shares Lieberman’s passion for African music, and together, they offer an unusual but harmonious pairing of wine and drumming.

Drumstruck at Silvermist is perfect for families, as it provides a rare opportunity for all generations to join in and enjoy the experience. Wine tasting is designed for adults, while younger guests can taste farm-brewed iced teas. The estate boasts ample open space for children to play, with animals like ducks, pigs, sheep, donkeys, rabbits, and dogs freely roaming the farmyard.

The show will run from November 10 to November 31, on weekends (Friday to Sunday). From December 1 until April 2024, there will be two shows daily from Wednesday to Sunday, at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. The performance, lasting 110 minutes (50-minute wine tasting and 60-minute drum show), is priced at R450 (adult wine tasting and show), R250 (kids under 12), and R300 (adult show only).

South African residents can avail themselves of tickets at R350 (adult wine tasting and show), R200 (kids under 12), and R275 (adult show only).

In this season, the South African experience includes an optional post-show braai (barbecue) at an additional cost of R300 with ticket purchases. Guests can enjoy the entertainment of a world-class marimba band while indulging in food, drinks, and breathtaking views.
