Feroz Khan misses Madlanga Commission hearing again; lawyers attend instead

Former SAPS Major-General Feroz Khan did not appear at the Madlanga Commission on Monday, 28 September 2026, with his legal team attending in his place. Khan’s evidence had been postponed from 1 September to 28 September by the commission’s chair, Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga.

Lawyers stand in as Khan stays away

Khan’s lawyers arrived at the commission for the scheduled appearance but Khan himself did not attend. The chair had ruled that Khan could only be excused from testifying if an independent medical specialist confirmed he was unable to do so.

The commission has heard competing accounts about Khan’s health. Khan’s legal team previously cited a medical impediment but did not disclose details. During the inquiry, Khan’s treating doctor gave evidence that a medical certificate had been altered at the request of Khan’s son, including a change to the period Khan was booked off.

Background: shooting and serious injuries

The medical questions follow a violent shooting in which Khan was wounded on 28 June outside his Houghton home. He was taken to Milpark Hospital with severe abdominal injuries, internal bleeding, spinal damage and kidney complications and underwent emergency surgery.
