Legal Firm Engaged to Investigate Tragic Passing of Grade 7 Student in Pretoria

In the wake of the tragic death of a Grade 7 girl, Gauteng education authorities are taking proactive steps by enlisting the assistance of a law firm to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Queenswood learner, 12-year-old Latoya Temilton, allegedly drowned during a school outing to Wag’ n Bietjie Resort in Witkoppen, Olifantsfontein, where parents have raised concerns about the lack of supervision at the pool.

Education MEC Matome Chiloane expressed deep sadness and recommended an independent investigation. Chiloane stated that appointing a law firm for this purpose is already underway, and the selected firm will be introduced to the school management team and the learner’s family after its appointment.

The police are investigating the incident. They aim to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. The school held a memorial service on January 24 to commemorate and honour the young learner’s life.
