Mpho Phalatse resigned as DA councillor

Mpho Phalatse resigned as DA councillor. A medical doctor by profession, Phalatse expressed her desire to step away from politics and re-enter the medical field, drawing on her qualifications and experience to make a significant impact in healthcare.

While Phalatse has chosen to leave her role as a councillor, she remains a committed member of the DA. Her decision to resign is rooted in her belief that she can use her medical expertise more in the healthcare sector.

Explaining her decision, Phalatse highlighted the unpredictable nature of the healthcare field, where medical emergencies are frequent and demand immediate attention. In contrast, the irregularity and frequency of council meetings in the political arena make it challenging to balance both roles without compromising one another.

Phalatse, who entered the political arena in 2016 after leaving her medical practice, served as a councillor for seven years and assumed the position of mayor in 2021. Her dedication and contributions during her tenure have been notable.

Her resignation will take effect on September 30. She stressed her stepping down should not be taken as a complete withdrawal from the DA or an end to her political career.
