Parents of Steenkamp to contest Pistorius’ parole

Published

On Friday, Pistorius is set to appear before the Pretoria parole board to determine if he can be released on parole after serving half of his 15-year sentence for fatally shooting his girlfriend in 2013. Reeva Steenkamp’s parents, June and Barry Steenkamp will oppose his release, as confirmed by their legal representative, Tania Koen as reported by Jacarandafm.

Pistorius was initially sentenced to five years for culpable homicide in 2014 but was then sentenced to 15 years in 2017 after the Supreme Court of Appeal overturned the original verdict and found him guilty of murder. Pistorius has always maintained that he shot Steenkamp in self-defence, mistaking her for an intruder.
