Ford Recalls 2024 Ranger Models Over Faulty Part That Could Cause Accidents

If you bought a Ford Ranger in 2024, it’s time to check whether your bakkie is affected by a recent vehicle recall that could pose serious risks on the road.

Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa has issued an urgent safety recall for certain 2024 Ranger models sold in South Africa — with some units also exported to Namibia, Botswana, and Swaziland. The reason? A potentially dangerous manufacturing error involving a suspension component.

What’s the problem?

According to a statement from the National Consumer Commission (NCC), some vehicles may have been fitted with the wrong front lower control arm on the left-hand side. If the component separates while driving, the vehicle could lose control of the affected wheel — significantly increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

The NCC has emphasized the severity of the defect and is urging all affected vehicle owners to book an inspection and repair at their nearest Ford dealership as soon as possible.

A regional issue with global echoes

This recall comes shortly after Ford Australia recalled over 13,000 Ford Ranger and Everest vehicles manufactured between 2022 and 2025. In those cases, the defect involved a fractured engine camshaft sprocket, which could cause the engine to lose power while driving — another serious road safety risk.

What should Ford owners do?

If you bought a 2024 Ford Ranger or suspect your vehicle might be affected, don’t delay.

  • Contact your nearest authorised Ford dealership.

  • Schedule a free inspection and repair appointment.

  • Don’t ignore recall notices, even if your vehicle feels fine.

It’s not just Ford: Other brands involved

Ford’s recall is part of a broader wave of automotive safety alerts this month. The NCC has reported additional recalls from manufacturers of the following brands:

  • Jeep Wrangler

  • Chrysler 300C

  • Citroën C4, DS4, DS5

  • Mercedes-Benz CLA (118), S-Class (model 223)

  • Audi

  • VW Polo Sedan

  • Volvo XC90

Each of these vehicles has been flagged for defects that could lead to serious injuries if left unaddressed.

Vehicle recalls may seem like a hassle, but they are critical for your safety and the safety of others on the road. If you’re driving a 2024 Ford Ranger or any of the recalled vehicles, act immediately. Visit your dealership, get the repairs done, and drive with peace of mind.
