Diddy’s R900m Bail Rejected as Judge Cites Abuse and Flight Risk

Music mogul to remain behind bars as court highlights serious risks and disturbing allegations
Sean “Diddy” Combs, once celebrated for his music empire and luxury lifestyle, will remain incarcerated after a US judge denied his R900 million bail application on Monday, 4 August 2025. District Court Justice Arun Subramanian ruled that the convicted artist poses both a flight risk and a public threat, particularly given graphic allegations of abuse and coercion.
Judge: “This Case Goes Beyond Lifestyle Choices”
In a scathing ruling, Judge Subramanian dismissed arguments that Combs’s case involved consensual adult activities. The court referenced testimony from ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura and an anonymous woman (“Jane Doe”), who described being “beaten, threatened, and systematically manipulated” by Combs.
The judge emphasised that no financial guarantee, not even R900 million, could mitigate the risks of releasing Combs before his October sentencing.
“Increasing the bond amount or adding conditions doesn’t change the facts,” Subramanian wrote.
Failed Appeal for Release
Combs’s legal team had filed a $50 million (R900 million) bail request on 29 July, supported by a letter from former partner Virginia “Gina” Huynh. She portrayed Combs as a devoted father and community figure, arguing he posed no danger.
The judge rejected this, noting Combs’s global connections, vast wealth, and prior conduct created an unacceptable flight risk.
The Charges and Timeline
-
Arrest: 16 September 2024 (federal charges for sex trafficking)
-
