South Africans are in for a treat this weekend as DStv throws open its doors for an Open Time celebration, giving all decoder customers free access to its Premium bouquet from Friday, 7 November to Sunday, 9 November 2025.

It’s a nostalgic nod to the broadcaster’s roots and a big birthday gift marking DStv’s 30th anniversary one that’s perfectly timed for sports lovers and local TV fans alike.

A Weekend Made For Sports Fans

Whether you’re into rugby, cricket, or Formula 1, this weekend’s free Premium access couldn’t have arrived at a better time.

The Springboks face off against France in Paris, the Proteas meet Pakistan in a thrilling ODI series decider, and the Brazilian Grand Prix is revving up for high drama at Interlagos.

Football fans are also in for back-to-back clashes: Tottenham vs Manchester United kicks off at 14:30 on Saturday, while Manchester City meets Liverpool on Sunday evening. MotoGP fans won’t be left out either, with the Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Portugal airing live at 15:00.

Beyond Sports: Entertainment Galore

The Open Time weekend isn’t just about live sport. DStv has lined up a mix of entertainment and nostalgia for all ages. Viewers can tune in for shows like Survivor Season 48, Piece by Piece (The Pharrell Williams Story in Lego), America’s Got Talent: 20th Anniversary Special, NCIS: Tony and Ziva, and Chris Hemsworth: A Road Trip to Remember.

And, of course, no Sunday evening would be complete without Carte Blanche at 7PM, a South African television staple that continues to define local investigative journalism.

A Tribute To 30 Years Of South African Television

This Open Time event is more than just a marketing push it’s a moment of reflection. MultiChoice has brought back some of South Africa’s most familiar television faces from the early days of DStv, including Ashley Hayden, Scot Scott, and Doreen Morris.

For many viewers, seeing these icons again is a nostalgic reminder of when M-Net’s Open Time first introduced South Africans to pay-TV in the 1990s. Back then, these presenters announced when Open Time began and ended each day a ritual that made weekend TV something special.

“DStv has grown up alongside its viewers,” said Byron du Plessis, CEO of SA Pay-TV at MultiChoice. “For three decades, we’ve been part of South Africans’ homes, their weekends, and their memories.”

Making DStv More Accessible

In line with its anniversary, MultiChoice is also reducing the price of HD decoders by 30% in retail and over 40% through its new DStv store. It’s a move Du Plessis says is aimed at reigniting the DStv brand and making it easier for South Africans to reconnect.

“It’s never been this easy or affordable to join DStv,” he said.

A Nostalgic Gift To Loyal Viewers

Former presenter Doreen Morris called the return of Open Time “a lovely way to give back to loyal viewers.”

“For long-time customers on other packages, it opens up access to Premium stories and experiences they may not have seen before. It’s a wonderful 30th birthday gift,” she added.

As South Africans settle in for a weekend packed with world-class sport and nostalgic TV moments, DStv’s Open Time is more than just free access it’s a heartfelt thank-you to the generations who grew up watching, laughing, and cheering together on screen.
