Ndimande Brothers Expected to Arrive in Durban as AKA Murder Extradition Nears Final Stage
Ndimande Brothers to Land in Durban as AKA Murder Case Takes a Major Turn
More than a year after the shocking murder of South African rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his close friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, the case has reached a crucial turning point. The two main suspects, Siyabonga and Malusi Ndimande, are finally being extradited from Eswatini, where they were arrested earlier this year.
A high-risk Interpol South Africa team has travelled to the Kingdom of Eswatini to take custody of the brothers, who were apprehended by the Eswatini Royal Police. Their arrival at King Shaka International Airport in Durban marks a major milestone in a case that has gripped the nation since February 2023.
A Case That Shook South Africa
The murders of AKA and Tibz outside Wish Restaurant on Florida Road, one of Durban’s most popular nightlife spots, sent shockwaves across the country. The brazen attack was caught on CCTV and left fans demanding justice and answers about who orchestrated the killing of one of South Africa’s most celebrated artists.
For months, speculation and frustration grew as police remained tight-lipped. Now, the return of the Ndimande brothers to South African soil offers a glimmer of closure for the families and supporters who have waited nearly two years for accountability.
Interpol Steps In: A High-Risk Transfer
Speaking from King Shaka International Airport, police spokesperson Colonel Athlenda Mathe confirmed that a specialised Interpol team had departed for Eswatini to oversee the handover.
“They are on their way to King Mswati III International Airport, where they will meet officers from Interpol Eswatini. The handover will take place between Interpol South Africa, our officers, and Interpol Mbabane,” Mathe explained.
Upon arrival in Durban, the brothers will be formally arrested under a J50 warrant, a high-level procedure used in serious criminal cases. They will then be processed, including fingerprinting, taking warning statements, and being informed of the multiple charges they face.
Facing Multiple Murder Charges
The Ndimande brothers are not only accused in the AKA and Tibz murders, but are also linked to two other violent cases in KwaZulu-Natal.
According to Colonel Mathe:
-
The first case involves the murder of a taxi boss in Amanzimtoti in 2022, where they face five charges.
-
The second is the murder of AKA and Tibz, where they face 11 charges.
-
The third case concerns the murder of a taxi boss’s driver and the attempted murder of his wife, also with around 11 charges.
Once in custody, the brothers will be handed over to the lead investigator in the case before appearing in court in Durban.
Public Reaction: Relief, Suspicion, and Unanswered Questions
On social media, South Africans have expressed mixed emotions, from relief that progress is finally being made, to renewed skepticism about whether justice will be served. Many fans of the late rapper have taken to X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram to share their thoughts, some using the hashtag #JusticeForAKA to commemorate his legacy.
Others have raised questions about the motives behind the attack, and whether the two brothers acted alone or were part of a larger network.
“It’s been almost two years. We just want the truth and accountability. AKA deserves that,” one fan wrote online.
A Long Road to Justice
The extradition marks one of the most significant developments in the case so far, but it’s far from the end. Once the Ndimande brothers appear in court, the process of linking them to the high-profile double murder, through forensic evidence, witness statements, and digital tracking will begin in earnest.
For South Africans, and for the family of AKA and Tibz, this moment feels like a step closer to justice, though many still carry the weight of unanswered questions and lingering grief.
As the brothers prepare to touch down at King Shaka International Airport, all eyes will be on Durban once again the city where one of South Africa’s brightest stars was silenced, and where the truth may finally begin to unfold.
