Quick-Thinking Employee Thwarts Armed Hijacking of Local Farmer
A local farmer in the Sunset Rest area had a harrowing escape on Sunday after being hijacked by four armed men, thanks to the swift actions of a vigilant farm employee.
The incident unfolded when the farmer encountered the men on his property. The suspects, armed with firearms, approached him and demanded a lift. They then forced him into the back of his own bakkie, with one of the assailants taking the wheel.
The situation took a dramatic turn when a farm employee, operating a tractor nearby, noticed something was wrong. Spotting an unfamiliar man driving the farmer’s vehicle, the employee immediately realized a crime was in progress.
In a bold move to stop the hijacking, the employee used his tractor to intervene, attempting to block the bakkie’s path with the tractor’s plough. During the confrontation, one of the gunmen fired a shot. Fortunately, no one was injured.
The suspects subsequently released the farmer unharmed and fled the scene. The hijacked bakkie was later recovered abandoned near the Corobrik area, where it is believed the men disappeared into the dense surrounding bush.
A manhunt for the four suspects is currently underway. The Umzinyathi SAPS district office has been approached for further comment on the ongoing investigation.
