Business Meeting Turns Deadly: Elderly Man Held After Fatal Shooting of Potchefstroom Brothers

A routine business meeting in Potchefstroom ended in tragedy on Tuesday, leaving one well-known local businessman dead, his brother in hospital, and a 73-year-old man in custody under heavy police guard.

The victims have been identified as Jonathan and Deon Fourie, the owners of the popular local establishment, Chubby Chick. According to police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh, the brothers were in a meeting with the elderly suspect when a dispute escalated into violence, resulting in shots being fired.

The shooting claimed the life of 52-year-old Jonathan Fourie. Described as a married man and a father to a young son, his sudden death has sent shockwaves through the community. His brother, 55-year-old Deon Fourie, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a medical facility for treatment.

The alleged shooter, a 73-year-old man whose identity has not been released, was also injured during the incident. Police confirmed he was hurt when security personnel intervened to restrain him. His condition is reported as stable.

The suspect remains hospitalized under police supervision and will be formally charged with murder and attempted murder upon his release. He is expected to make his first appearance in the Potchefstroom Magistrate’s Court soon.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and police investigations are ongoing to piece together the events that led to the fatal confrontation between the business associates.
